Derrick Todd Lee's Rap Sheet
November 1992: Lee arrested for illegal entry and burglary of Zachary resident Rob Benge's house.
January 1993: Lee and his accomplice, Thomas Whitaker Jr. were arrested for breaking into the home of seventy-three-year old Melvin Foster, whom they beat with a stick and robbed.
July 1993: Lee sentenced to one year in prison for burglary.
September 1995: Lee arrested for a peeping incident and resisting arrest, after being chased and caught by police after looking into the window of a woman. During the same month, Lee was arrested again for stealing from a Salvation Army Thrift Store.
August 1997: Lee arrested after being caught looking into the windows of a woman.
August 1999: Lee arrested after being caught in a woman's residence uninvited, for being a peeping Tom and stalking.
December 1999: Received a suspended sentence on a misdemeanor stalking charge.
January 2000: Accused of attempted first-degree murder after severely kicking and stomping his girlfriend Consandra Green at a bar after an argument over Lee's advances towards another woman. While trying to flee from the police following the incident he allegedly tried and to run over the sheriff's deputy with a car. Lee was sentenced to two years for the incident.
September 2001: Lee arrested for battery against wife but charges later dismissed.
Following the release of Lee's vast criminal history, residents of Baton Rouge were shocked that he was never suspected in the Baton Rouge murders, especially when the focus was changed to a man of color in March of 2003. Moreover, the task force was heavily criticized because Lee had been overlooked after having been brought to their attention by the Zachary Police Department in 2002. The Zachary Police suspected Lee in the murder of forty-one-year old Connie Warner in 1992 and the disappearance of twenty-year old Randi Mebruer in 1998. Despite the mistakes made in the case, the task force was congratulated for their work in catching the killer.

Gillis was 1994 - 2003 DTL was apprehended May 27, 2003 I don't know when DTL began killing, but I'd think BSL could have been a part of some.

He was sentenced to 2 yrs in Jan 2000, must have only served part of sentence. Was charged again Sep 2001 (charges dropped). So - they could have spent a short amount of time in prison at the same time.

The only connection I would think BSL would have to DTL is seeing him in the news while he was in jail. It was a huge deal down here, and was pretty much covered daily on the news. He may have just had a peaked interest in the case and thought, "well if he can get away with it, I'm smarter than he is, so could I."

These are the places where Brandon served his time:
02/25/00-07/05/00 -- Pine Prairie Detention Center, Evangeline Parish 07/06/00-07/30/00 -- Reception and Diagnostic Center at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, Iberville Parish 07/31/00-01/14/02 -- Winn Correctional Center, Winn Parish
Can't find where DTL served his in 2000. Anyone else find that?

Derrick Todd Lee's life is very different now that he lives in one of the two isolation cells in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. According to Josh Noel of The Advocate, the other isolation cell prisoner is Booker T. Williams Jr., accused of murder.
Lee has been separated from the general prison population – standard procedure for high-profile sexual crimes – to ensure that he is not assaulted by another prisoner. Like other prisoners in isolation cells, Lee gets 25 minutes out of his cell each day. "He gets no television, but has access to this paper [The Advocate] every day." Every 60 days he is allowed three hours in the prison recreation yard. Lee can have visitors, but only three of them and they can only come on Wednesdays and speak to him by phone.
Noel reports that Lee's most frequent visitor is his mother, but other family members have come as well.
Lee's case, which has been estimated to require some $800,000 in defense expenses, has created a burden for the overworked and understaffed Public Defender's Office.
Charlotte Pace In early September, 2003, prosecutors revealed that some witnesses claimed that they saw Lee at the scene of the murder of Charlotte Murray Pace on May 31, 2002. According to Josh Noel of The Advocate, Chris Villemarette and Karen Savoie told a national television program that they saw Lee outside Pace's home the day she was killed. However, the description of the man they saw does not clearly fit Derrick Todd Lee.
Trineisha Colomb
On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, Lee was formally indicted with the first-degree murder of Trineisha Dené Colomb of Lafayette, LA. Around the same time, DNA tests failed to show a link between Lee and the murder of Connie Warner of Zachary, LA.
On Wednesday, October 1, 2003, Angela Simoneaux and Adrian Angelette of The Advocate reported that Lee was formally charged with the attempted murder and attempted rape of a Breaux Bridge woman. Lee is looking at a sentence of 100 years for those crimes if convicted.
On October 14, 2003, Bruce Schultz and Kevin Blanchard of The Advocate wrote that Lee pleaded innocent to the first-degree murder charge in Lafayette concerning the death of Trineisha Colomb. He also pleaded innocent to the attempted rape and murder of an unnamed Breaux Bridge woman.
Pam Kinamore
Lynne Marino, mother of Baton Rouge victim Pam Kinamore, commented on the testimony of the Breaux Bridge woman whose skull had been fractured, "She wants everyone to know how vicious he was. They didn't expect her to live."
According to Marlene Naanes of The Advocate, a St. Francisville woman had given Lee's name to authorities months before the last two victims were slain. The woman had been stalked by Lee for two years. Lee's name had been passed on to the task force, but the implication is that it was not followed up on because the task force was only looking for a white man.

Just 4 days later the jury deliberated. Deslatte reported in an AP Worldstream article at the time that it took the jury just an hour and 40 minutes to come to a verdict. On August 8, 2004, 11 of the 12 jurors found Lee guilty of second-degree murder in the case of Geralyn DeSoto. Six days later, Judge Free sentenced Lee to life in Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, "without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence," Emily Kern reported in an August 2004 article.

Following the arguments the jury deliberated. It took only 93 minutes for them to reach a verdict. The jury rejected the defenses contention that Lee was mentally retarded and decided to sentence Lee to death by lethal injection. Family and friends of the victims rejoiced, hugged and cried, most feeling that justice had finally been served.
In December 2004, Lee was formally sentenced to death. His lawyers have asked for a new trial, claiming that the jurors already were biased towards Lee before the Pace murder trial even commenced. Defense lawyers also filed documents for a new penalty hearing because Lee was mentally retarded and should not be put to death. Even though a judge has denied both requests, Lee's lawyers still plan to appeal.
A 2Advocate.com article said that, "In addition to Pace and DeSoto, Lee has been indicted on a count of first-degree murder in the death of Trineisha Dene Colomb of Lafayette, and booked on first-degree murder counts in the deaths of Gina Wilson Green, Pam Kinamore, Carrie Lynn Yoder and Randi Mebruer, all of East Baton Rouge Parish." Yet, in January 2005, Colomb's family decided not to put Lee on trial, since he had already been convicted and sentenced to death. In the meantime, Lee spends what is left of his life on Louisiana State Penitentiary's death row.

Well this one doesn't fit a black man and Brandon was in prison. So, there is another serial killer still running around down there, may more than just one.

So South Louisiana had 3 or 4 serial killers at the same time? (Posted on 7/28/12 at 1:10 p.m.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------From the mid-90's to the early 2000's: Derrick Todd Lee, Sean Vincent Gillis, (maybe) the D.C. Sniper, and (maybe) Brandon Scott Lavergne? I know that BSL is only currently blamed on one murder in the late 1990's, but MS sort of makes him a serial killer suspect, and possibly a suspect in some other late 1990's to early 2000's missing person cases. Someone also mentioned on this board that the D.C. sniper was from Baton Rouge and suspected in one or more South Louisiana murders. When the MS thread first started, someone mentioned the DTL book, and I read it. That was so tragic that DTL was able to get away with it for so long, and it had to just terrify young women in BR. That is crazy that South Louisiana had up to 4 serial killers around the same time. They had not linked the other victims murders to a serial killer..

from TD - When DTL was still on the loose, the thought then was that there 2 if not 3 operating in baton rouge. They could recognize the pattern with DTL, but knew someone else was killing prostitutes.
Once DTL and Gillis were caught, a lot of murders fell into place, but there still remain some that don't completely fit or there will never be a confession. Time will tell if the killings stop, or something else happens as it did with Lavergne.
If you're including all Baton rouge psycho killers, don't forget about the soldier who killed fellow troops in a staging area - Kuwait I think - before the invasion of Iraq.

quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are about 200 known unsolved murders of females in Houston and the surrounding areas since 1971. The victims in the I-45 cases usually disappeared while they were out alone and vulnerable. Some just vanished, while others were discovered sexually abused and left dead in a remote spot sometime later. Frequently their remains were too decomposed, leaving little or no clues behind as to the killer(s) identity. In some instances the killings are presumably the work of one man, like the case of the 1970's murders and in the case of the "Killing Fields" on Calder Drive in League City. However, there are many things that point to multiple serial killers who have hunted for their prey in the same I-45 areas. The MO of a few of the I-45 serial killers appear to copy cat somewhat the original 1970's murders, yet very in other ways they do not match up. Being that a few of the I-45 killers have been caught conform that there is more than one serial killer roaming the highway. coldcaseusa.blogspot.com/2011/10/texas-killing-fields-real-story-of-i-45.html

And actually, I don't understand how LE could make this statement:Investigators look to more cold cases for possible connection to Brandon Lavergne Any case that happened between 2000-2008 could not be connected to Lavergne because he was incarcerated for oral sexual battery. He was convicted for typing up, blindfolding and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman from Evangeline Parish back in 1999. “Everyone initially thought that he would be connected to the Jeff Davis murders, but he was incarcerated at the time, so there’s no possible way he could have been connected to those cases,” Cpt. Judice, said. “Also, he worked off shore, so we need to account for that time and find those cases that fit that timeline.” www.nbc33tv.com/news/crimetracker/investigators-look-to-more-cold-cases-for-possible-connection-to-brandon-lavergneWTF are they stupid or what? He got out August of 2008.Sep 11, 2008 - The body of Crystal Shay Benoit Zeno, 24, is found in a dry canal a couple miles southeast of Jennings, but because of the advanced state of decomposition, it took nearly two months to identify her. Her death is ruled a homicide but how she was murdered has not been made public. Nov 2, 2008 - Brittney Gary, 17, disappears after walking to a nearby Family Dollar Store to purchase minutes for her cell phone. Gary is known to have done drugs and knew several of the other victims, including her cousin Lopez and best friend Brown. Saturday, Nov 15, 2008 a family search party finds a Gary in the grass off Keystone Road, a half-mile south of La. 1126 and about four miles south of Roanoke. Her death is ruled as homicide but how she was murdered has not been made public. Aug 16, 2009 – Necole Guillory, 27, is believed to be missing. On August 19th JDP law enforcement is notified, at 1:30 pm, about the situation with Necole. By 2:00 pm, the task force is interviewing the person who reported Necole missing. At 2:30 pm, Acadia parish officials are notified that workers weed eating grass on an I-10 embankment had just discovered a dead female. The victim was positively identified on August 20, 2009.
