Pending Coroner - but rather obvious, she was located inside her carLONG BEACH A woman’s body has been found in the car of a Pascagoula woman who was reported missing May 31, Long Beach Chief Wayne McDowell confirmed. The body and car were found about 1 a.m. Sunday, about 40 miles from Pascagoula, in a store parking lot on Cleveland Avenue near Railroad Street, McDowell said. He declined to say if the body inside the gold 1997 Ford Escort was that of Billie Jean Harris, who was last seen driving that type of car. “We are leaving that up to the coroner,” McDowell said. The body and car were found after the Pascagoula Police Department contacted Long Beach police and told them where they were believed to be, he said. McDowell declined to say exactly where they were found. Businesses in that area include Winn-Dixie, Advance Auto Parts and Smokey’s Discount Tobacco. Harris had been seen at the Walmart in Pascagoula between 4 and 5 p.m. Wednesday. Pascagoula police released a picture of Harris to the media on Friday. McDowell said Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove will identify the body and contact the family before releasing the woman’s name. “It’s still early in the investigation,” McDowell said when asked if foul play is suspected. Pascagoula police Monday confirmed a mother of one reported missing May 31 was found dead in her car in the Winn Dixie parking lot in Long Beach over the weekend. “Our prayers go out to her friends and family during this difficult time,” Pascagoula police said on their Facebook page. No foul play is suspected in the death of Billie Jean Harris, 24. Police found her dead inside her gold 1997 Ford Escort. Pascagoula police officers tracked the woman’s cellphone to the Long Beach store’s parking lot, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said. When the two Pascagoula police officers looked inside the car, they saw the woman’s body and called Long Beach police in to investigate. Harris disappeared after she dropped off her daughter at the child’s father’s home. She had said she was going to the Pascagoula Walmart but never returned home. Police Chief Kenny Johnson confirmed Friday that surveillance showed Harris made it to the Pascagoula store and left a short time later. The woman’s family had reported her missing because it was out of character for her to disappear. Long Beach police found the body about 1 a.m. Sunday after they were tipped off on a location by Pascagoula police. www.sunherald.com/news/local/counties/jackson-county/article154457429.html
