GREENE COUNTY, MS -
The search for missing teen Brian Jessie Parker has come to a tragic end. Investigators with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office tell FOX10 News they found Parker's body Wednesday night in Greene County, Mississippi.
We're told the body had the same clothing that Parker was last seen wearing.
Our crew was there as the body was recovered and taken by the Greene County coroner's office for an autopsy late Wednesday night. Investigators found Parker's body a couple hundred yards into the woods off Highway 63 in Greene County, just before seven o'clock. The wooded area is about nine miles north of Highway 98 (Moffett Road) passed Lucedale.
We're told investigators had been searching the area where the body was found for days. Captain Paul Burch with MCSO says investigators had evidence that narrowed down a small area along Highway 63.
"We had multiple teams out here. Basically, this stretch of road you see out here, we've gone in and out every single trail of this road. Toward the end of the day, the discovery was made."
More than a dozen cars surrounded the scene, as multiple agencies investigated the wooded area. That included the FBI, Greene County and George County authorities, MCSO, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
We're told the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will be taking over the case.
"There's some evidence that I can't get into, and again the case is now a Mississippi case, and we'll be providing them all the documents that we've generated throughout the case, and it will all be turned over to Greene County," says Capt. Burch.
16-year-old Brian Jessie Parker had been missing for more than a week from Wilmer.
He was seen last week with the main suspect in the case, Matthew Moberg, at a Dollar General in Lucedale. Surveillance video was captured at the store the day Parker went missing. Those were the last images of Parker. We're told the clothes on the body match the ones Parker was wearing in the video.
It's unclear at this point how Parker died. That information will come out after the preliminary autopsy report is done.
Burch says Parker's family has been told about the discovery. On Tuesday, the family announced a $5,000 reward for any information that could bring Parker home.
The man at the center of the investigation, Matthew Moberg, is behind bars after running from deputies last week. We're told he still isn't cooperating with investigators.
