Plainfield police are investigating the death of a person found in a car this morning submerged in Lily Cache Creek near U.S. Route 30.
Police received a call shortly after 7 a.m. from a person who spotted the vehicle upside down in the water about 100 yards south of a bridge that extends over the creek, according to a news release. When officers arrived at the scene they found the car, which had ice formed around it, indicating that it had been in the water for a long period of time.
Firefighters from the Plainfield Fire Protection District conducted a search of the vehicle where they found the body of a single victim, police said. The identity of the person is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Police are asking for anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact the Plainfield Police Investigations Division at 815-267-7209.
