Dec 03, 2012 The family of 36-year-old Rodrick Hamilton, who was shot and killed overnight Monday in Childersburg, believes the victim did nothing to provoke his death. Childersburg police said an officer shot Hamilton at the Kangaroo gas station on Highway 280 around 12:30 am. Hamilton was airlifted to UAB Hospital where he later died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. No details of the incident were released, but police confirmed the officer will be placed on administrative leave. Childersburg police wouldn't comment on the investigation. The victim's girlfriend, Janette Hamilton, was with Hamilton at the gas station. They got into a verbal argument, and she called police. Hamilton said when an officer responded, the argument subsided. But, Hamilton claimed the officer asked the victim to get out of the car. When he refused, she said the officer sprayed pepper spray then shot him in the chest. "He was in the car and buckled in a seat belt," recalled Hamilton. "He was unarmed. He never got out of the car. His feet never touched the ground." The Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Talladega County District Attorney's office is investigating the shooting. www.abc3340.com/story/20250439/family-of-childersburg-shooting-victim-places-blame-on-police
