BUHL, Idaho -- An Elmore County woman missing for three days was found alive Thursday morning in a rugged canyon near Buhl.
Ashly Hankins, 25, a mother of two from King Hill, was reported missing Tuesday by her mother.
The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office said Hankins was found in the River Road area near Buhl around 9 a.m. They say she fell through an area of rough, steep terrain and was unable to get back to her truck. It is not known how far she fell or what she was doing in the area.
“I don't know why she was out there. At this point no one really knows why she was out there, and what happened," said brother-in-law Sam Sites. "We all can't wait until she can wake up and talk to us."
Her 1998 Toyota Tacoma truck was found around 7 p.m. Wednesday near the top the grade. Twin Falls County deputies, including a K-9 unit search for several hours, but the search was called off last night due to darkness.
Deputies say she could have been stranded on hillside since Monday.
On Thursday morning, a farmer heard her cries for help.
"She was probably walking towards the top of the hill, and either lost footing or tripped, or for some reason, fell, tumbled and rolled to where she is at," said Lt. Daron Brown.
Deputies say this location is not only very difficult to get to, but with the Snake River nearby, it's very difficult to hear. She was lucky to be found.
Rescue crews had to hike through tall grass, rocks and trees to get to her side.
Hankins broke her neck, back and ankle in the fall and suffered a collapsed lung.
She was taken by air ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, where she is listed in serious condition after undergoing surgery this afternoon.
Twin Falls County deputies, search and rescue, Filer Fire and QRU, and Magic Valley Paramedics assisted with the rescue, which took about 90 minutes.
