At least two missing teenagers were forced to work as prostitutes by a former Toronto man now facing several criminal charges, police say.
One of the young women, now 18, is alleged to have earned more than $350,000 for the man, who was arrested Dec. 6 and is now involved in a bail hearing.
"She wanted out and was told she had to earn another $50,000," Peel police Det. Randy Cowan said in an interview.
The woman was 16 and had been missing from her Mississauga family's home for a couple of years when she began earning money for the accused, police said.
Details of the man's bail hearing, which began yesterday, are under a publication ban.
A 14-year-old, also allegedly put to work as a prostitute, had been reported missing by the Children's Aid Society where she was a ward.
"We believe there is another young girl who also was under his control because we found a photo of her among his possessions," said Cowan, who heads Peel's vice unit.
Acting on information, police sent an undercover officer to a Mississauga hotel on Dec. 6 where he was greeted at the door by a young woman dressed only in a towel.
It's alleged she offered him a full-service sex package for $120.
During the encounter, the accused man arrived at the hotel and was arrested in the hallway, police said.
Investigators determined the girls' services were being advertised on the Internet.
Based on the online information, the undercover officer thought he was going to meet a 18-year-old, but a search of the accused's car produced identification showing she was 14.
A ledger recording money earned from the illegal activity was later discovered at the accused's Niagara Falls residence, along with lurid photos of the two girls and another young woman.
Imani Nakpamgi, 25, is charged with juvenile prostitution, human trafficking and living off the avails of prostitution.
Jamee Phetchampa, his common-law wife, was arrested Monday and charged.
