A New Castle-area boy missing since June was found in Arizona after someone recognized his photo from a missing persons mailing and contacted police.
The tip led to the arrest of the boy's father, who had taken the boy out of the state without the knowledge of his mother, New Castle County police said Wednesday.
County police spokesman Cpl. Wayne Pennington said Terrell Guiff, 42, of the 100 block of Robinson Drive in Manor Park, was picked up by Page (Ariz.) police Tuesday after he and his 14-year-old son went to a clinic there for a visit.
Pennington said a nurse at the clinic recognized the pair from an ADVO card that was mailed to her. ADVO is a direct mail service company that mails cards every week with photos of missing children and their possible abductors.
Guiff and his son were reported missing in June by Guiff's ex-wife, who had custody of the son.
Pennington said detectives issued warrants for Guiff's arrest shortly after he and his son were reported missing.
Guiff is being held in Arizona awaiting extradition to Delaware, where he has been charged with felony interference with custody and violating a court order.
Pennington said the son is with children's services in Arizona, where his mother will pick him up.
He said the ADVO card played a primary role in reuniting the son with his mother.
"In this instance, it really helped bring a missing person issue to a close," Pennington said.
