Jason Jolkowski Our then 19 year old son, Jason Jolkowski, disappeared from our home on Wednesday, June 13, 2001. The story of his disappearance has been covered by the local media & a reward fund has been established by our employers for information leading to his safe return home. There are no leads at this time. We are asking the general public to assist us in getting posters placed in local businesses here in the Omaha area & nationwide. If each family were to place 5 posters each, the impact would be tremendous. The posters are available at the information desks at DTN Corp. 9110 W Dodge Rd, South entrance, 2nd floor receptionist's desk. Also, Copycat Printing at 114th & Dodge will make color copies for a discount & black & white copies may also be purchased. You can also print posters from your own computer by clicking on the "printable poster" link below. It's easy to distribute the posters. Just take the posters in your car along with a roll of tape. When you go to a business & do not see Jason's poster displayed, check with the management first, & then offer to tape the poster up in a prominent area, such as a doorway. Ask for another copy to be placed near the employee time clock or other common area, such as a breakroom. Check with leaders at your place of worship & place posters on bulletin boards in entryways. If you know someone that sees many people during their workday, such as route drivers, ask them to take posters with them on their route for distribution. We always think tragedies like this happen to someone else, but it can happen to any family, anytime. Please help our family. members.cox.net/prayersandposters/

On June 13, 2001, Jason was called in to work early. His car was in the shop all week, so he had no way to get to work in the morning. He told the manager that he would walk, but they called him back & made arrangements to meet at Benson High School, 8 blocks away from our home. Jason has a difficult time giving directions, & meeting at his former high school probably seemed logical to him.
He showered & dressed, & was last seen by his little brother, Michael, bringing in the trash cans, as the trash pickup had taken place that morning. The neighbor also saw Jason taking the cans into the garage. Jason was wearing black dress shoes & black dress pants & carrying his red work t-shirt.
He wore a white Chicago Cubs or Sammy Sosa t-shirt, & a blue Chicago Cubs baseball hat. This occurred at approximately 10:45 am. Within 30-45 minutes, the employer called our home to see if Jason was there, as he did not show up at the high school. No one has seen or heard from Jason since then.
He has not touched his bank account, used his cell phone, picked up his checks from work, or inquired about or attempted to pick up his car from the body shop. He also was to have started a new job the following week, & he did not call or show up for the new job, which he was excited about.
We estimate, based on the amount of his last check, & the deposit he made, that he didn't have more than $60 with him, if even that. Jason is a very shy individual & typically did not pursue social activities. For the most part, he was either at work or home. He did not appear to be interested in alcohol or drugs.
He has a close relationship with his family, & it is hard to believe that he would purposely stay away without even contacting us, although we realize that this is not outside of the realm of possibilities. As we don't have any clues, anything is possible. We HOPE that it is just a case of Jason just wanting to get away from life's pressures for awhile as the alternative to that scenario is unbearable to think about.
It just seems odd that if he had run away, that at the very least, he would have taken his checkbook or picked up his checks from work. As we have no leads, we are trying to reach every citizen because someone has to have seen him. We love our son and just want him back home with us.

02/09/2004 -- Body of Nebraska Senator's Aide Found in Pond
Divers found the body of an aide to Sen. Ben Nelson in a pond Monday, a day after he was seen walking his dogs in a park south of McCook, authorities said.
Two of Scott Hoffman's dogs had returned to his home without him and another was picked up Sunday afternoon. Authorities believe Hoffman, 33, may have gone after his dogs as they chased geese onto the park pond's thin ice.
Nelson issued a statement Monday saying Hoffman ``will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him.''
Hoffman was an editor at the McCook Gazette from 1995 through 2000 before taking a job with Nelson's campaign. He was Nelson's field representative in McCook.

A body discovered Wednesday morning in a sandpit southwest of Omaha may be that of Ord native Janelle Hornickel, who has been missing since early Jan. 5. Sarpy County sheriff's Chief Deputy Jeff Davis said an autopsy will be performed today, and a positive identification is expected soon.
"We're fairly comfortable it is Janelle," Davis said on Wednesday.
Hornickel's mother, Twilla Hornickel of Ord, said Janelle's sister, brother and brother-in-law were allowed to help with the search on Wednesday and called her shortly before 11 a.m. to tell her the body had been found.
"It's something we needed," Twilla Hornickel said. "It's been long enough. We needed some closure."
Hornickel and her boyfriend, Michael Wamsley, 20, also of Omaha, made several 911 calls for help early the morning of Jan. 5, stating that they were lost and looking for Hornickel's pickup. The pickup was found stuck in the snow southwest of Omaha later that day, and Wamsley's body was found on Jan. 6, a little more than a mile from the truck.
Because of the weather, civilians other than family members were not allowed to join in Wednesday's search. Davis said several areas that were too dangerous for civilians were earmarked to search. The body was found in one of those areas.
Davis said the body, which was covered with snow, was found by one of the search teams shortly after 10 a.m. The body was in a sandpit that had a high bank and "was kind of in a crevice at the base of the water," Davis said.
Searchers had to descend the embankment on ropes and at times walk on ice to look into the crevices around the sandpit, he said.
Davis said the female body was found about half a mile north of where Wamsley's body was found and half to three-quarters of a mile from the truck.
Now that both bodies have been recovered, Davis said, other leads can be pursued and the investigation can continue.
About 14 inches of snow fell in the rural area southwest of Omaha on Jan. 5 and 6, the day of and the day after the couple's disappearance. Davis said that neither body, when found, was appropriately dressed for the weather.
While the identity of the body found Wednesday had not yet been confirmed, Hornickel's family that morning had no doubt it was her.
"There wasn't any hope any other way," Twilla Hornickel said of the way the search ended.
The Rev. Janet Burgel of the Mira Valley United Methodist Church, to which Hornickel belonged when she lived in Ord, was planning to bus a group of volunteers to help with the search on Friday. After learning on Wednesday that the search had ended, she said, "It's brought people together across the state, and the families are very grateful for all of the help that has been put forth. ... God has been working in the midst of it."
Burgel said numerous members of her congregation were gone from church last Sunday because they were helping search for Hornickel. Burgel helped with the search on Monday and said it was "kind of like holding your breath and waiting in anticipation."
"There's been a lot of prayer, and there was a song we sang last week that talked about the patience of unanswered prayer," Burgel said. "This has come about in God's time and not ours."
Hornickel graduated from Ord High School in 2002 and was a junior at Creighton University, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
"To the family and friends of Janelle Hornickel in Ord, Neb., the entire Creighton University community is deeply grieved at the tragic loss of Janelle and her friend, Michael Wamsley," the Rev. John P. Schlegel, Creighton president, said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Jodi Taylor added, "As the Creighton chapter president of Delta Zeta Sorority, we are all deeply saddened by the loss of our sorority sister, Janelle Hornickel. ... Her friendship and loyalty to us will never be forgotten. We will always love our sister."

The body of an 18-year-old Southeast Community College student missing since last Friday has been found. The Gage County sheriff's officer said early Friday Kendra Benham was the apparent victim of a traffic accident. Benham's body was found about 11:30 p.m. CST Thursday by a rural firefighter who had been part of a two-day search involving an estimated 60 people, the sheriff's office said. The teen's pickup was in a ravine about 4 1/2 miles west of Southeast Community College in Beatrice. Her body was found in the bed of the pickup. Investigators say it appears the pickup left the roadway, hit a culvert, went airborne, striking several trees before landing in a creek about 20 feet below the roadway. Warmer temperatures melted snow and made the accident debris visible from the road. An autopsy has been ordered in the case. Benham was last seen last Friday when she told a roommate she was heading to a party. She never arrived. www.wowt.com/news/headlines/1248677.html
