A missing Statesville woman found Wednesday night in a parking lot at Piedmont Triad International Airport likely died of a drug overdose, police said.
George Anna Setzer, 48, was found dead at 7 p.m. Wednesday in her 2005 Ford Escape after Statesville police asked airports across the state to search for Setzer's vehicle, Statesville Police Lt. Dan Miglin said.
An airport police officer located the vehicle in the airport's long-term parking lot, he said.
Miglin said Setzer's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill where an autopsy was performed.
Statesville police, who are being assisted in their investigation by the SBI, said there were no indications of foul play. It's believed she died sometime on Sunday, the day she went missing, police said. Her vehicle arrived at the airport just before 6 p.m. Sunday, Miglin said.
While a toxicology report is still being processed, Miglin said investigators believe Setzer, 48, intentionally overdosed. She had a history of depression and some recent personal problems, he said.
Setzer was last seen at 4:30 p.m. near her Statesville residence, police said. Setzer's purse and other personal items were found in her home and officials said they felt her disappearance was suspicious.
A Web site set up for Setzer since she went missing expresses thanks for those who have helped the family since Setzer disappeared Sunday.
Bob Collier, the father of Setzer's boyfriend Robb Collier, said Thursday that Setzer has a 12-year-old daughter and was well-known in Statesville.
She had owned a popular clothing store for many years. More recently, she had been working out of her home, selling clothing for a national company.
Setzer was vivacious and outgoing, Collier said, and her death came as a shock.
"We're still all so distraught," he said.
