A Memphis police officer was convicted in September of multiple criminal counts relating to the theft of more than $135,000 in drug forfeiture money. Officer Alandas McGraw was the forfeiture and settlement officer of the Police Department's vice and narcotics unit, and used his position to cut fraudulent settlement checks that were later split among himself and two others.
In Virginia, a sheriff's deputy was sentenced in October to seven years in prison, after being found guilty of possession of marijuana and cocaine, and having a firearm while in possession of drugs. Sean Kirshon was arrested in March after a raid on his home. Police seized pipes, pot and cocaine, as well as a handgun that had been issued to Kirshon for his job. Having the handgun while in possession of the drugs gave Kirshon a five-year mandatory minimum sentence.
