HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - A woman who called her family to say she was being held against her will is now missing and may have been with a man the night before his body was discovered in the middle of a brush fire, police said.
Christina DeStefano told her grandmother on Sunday that she was being held against her will just before the phone went dead. Her family has not heard from her since, and state police in Hollidaysburg said Thursday they were still looking for the 20-year-old woman.
The chilling phone call came about 30 minutes after DeStefano telephoned her grandmother to say she loved her and then hung up, authorities said in court documents obtained Wednesday by The Altoona Mirror.
Troopers said DeStefano's disappearance may be connected to the death of James Tucker, whose body was discovered in the brush fire in Cambria County last week. Tucker, 22, of Altoona, had been shot three times, authorities said.
His body was found April 27 - three days before DeStefano called her family. Police said DeStefano may have been with him the night of April 26.
DeStefano's family said she was about to move into a home in Grazierville. Troopers searching the home found blood- and mud-stained jeans, three handguns, ammunition, shell casings and a cell phone, according to court documents.
State police in Ebensburg, who are leading the investigation into Tucker's death, said Thursday they were still pursuing leads in the case.
