It's been almost three months now since Michelle Combs went missing in Jackson. Since then her parents have been hitting the streets, conducting their own investigation into her disappearance. With few clues found by police, the Combs family is asking for the public's help in finding their daughter.
When Michelle Combs disappeared Feburary 7th, her parents, Bettye and Phil, contacted the proper authorities. When they didn't hear back from them, they began their own investigation.
Phil Combs says, "Bettye and I have been out looking for Michelle ever since she disappeared, passed out pictures, talked to people on the street, been to businesses, been to motels, talked to police."
Michelle was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, a condition she has struggled daily with after sustaining brain injuries in a car accident four years ago.
Fighting back tears, Bettye Combs says, "We would like to just have her home, and the stories we've heard on the streets have been discouraging."
Recently, during the search for Michelle, employees at the Jacksonian Inn on Ellis Avenue told the Combs family they recognized their daughter's picture and that she had been there recently.
The Combs' search for their daughter led them here to the I-20 underpass at Valley Street. After talking to some squaters in the area, they made an amazing discovery, Michelles shoes lying by a creek.
People in the area say they spotted her two weeks ago. After a conversation with one of the homeless men, Phil Combs says "He didn't explain. He said she had been there for some period of time, but he didn't say how long, but he said she had been there. There's just many things that lead us to believe harm may have come to her. She hasn't accessed any of her money in three months. She has not contacted us."
The Combs family says Michelle's hair was an auburn color the last time they saw her. Despite the recent developments, they are trying to remain optimistic.
