I am the ex-boyfriend.
Kerri was “aware” of her father’s activities; some of them were directed towards her and many more towards her mother; he seemed to have spared his son though. She swore me to silence and said that her father had claimed the church backed him and that they would hunt her down if anyone spoke. She said that he used the authority of the church to tyrannize his family home. Frankly, I thought she was exaggerating and being a bit of a drama queen so I took her stories with a grain of salt—but just to be safe—I never spoke of it to anyone. I moved to Europe two years ago and have no plans to return to the US.
Kerri was fascinated with the Fred and Rosemary West case. She wasn’t sure if her mother was the “monster” or if she was just going along with him out of fear. She claimed that some of the murders took place at their family home, but that she had trouble separating her dream life (which was very active and terrifying) from real events. She described the clothing, ID’s and jewelry and repeated his statements that his continued impunity was proof of God’s blessing of his actions. Again, when she spoke she mixed dreams with reality and I was never sure which was which.
My sources tell me that after her parent's visit to Michigan, and more importantly, seeing her father hold her child, she decided to turn him in, it took her a few more months to actually get the nerve to do it and to convince WPD that she was speaking the truth. In my opinion Kerri is a hero and should be treated with respect, the jury is still out on her mother, though, fear is a powerful emotion and Mr. Rader was a very frightening man.
What I wrote last time was based on anger at her parents and was therefore hyperbolic to say the least. Kerri never mentioned the letters “BTK”, only that she thought her father killed people. I had never heard that appellation until I read about it in the New York Times. The whole drama was way too much for me, I’m from a quiet, low-key family and have a low tolerance for wild emotional outbursts, and so I ended the relationship. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Kerri, nothing but hate and anger towards her parents and that church they belonged to. I could very well be wrong about her mother; I hold parents to a high standard to protect their children and she failed in spades to protect her daughter.
Kerri has already spoken to LE. It is her story, not mine. LE makes their own decisions and clearly they think Kerri’s mother was a victim not a perp. I form my opinions not from a legal but a moral point of view, and again, I’ve never had to face a killer as a spouse so I have no idea how well I would react in a similar situation either.
Kerri’s husband (is it Darian?) obviously had no clue (at the time of his blog entries) because, if he had, he would never have written about it in such a public way, let alone invited her parents to stay in their house.
I have had no contact with her for three years and all I know about her nowadays is through the internet or from a common friend (who is not always correct in her opinions, btw).
