[glow=red,2,300]The Mask Comes Off[/glow]
BTK sits in a jail cell in Wichita, Kansas cut off from the world except for participating in police interogrations and discussions with potential legal counsel. He can only imagine that his life is now being unfolded by the media and Internet community for all to see.
Seventy-two hours ago Dennis Rader left his home for work - the last day of the week - and two days before he would attend the Christ Lutheran Church where he had recently been elected President. What he may have thought was a routine traffic stop was really the end of his killing spree. BTK was finished.
Perhaps for the first time in over thirty years the monster inside Dennis Rader's mind is at peace. There is no need to wear a mask anymore. All that he has left is the truth - a truth that he is now revealing to law enforcement officials.
Investigators from the Whchita Police Department have been digging up portions of Radar's backyard and finding evidence that will be used against him. That is not a coincidence. BTK is singing like a bird. His time has now come - not when he expected - but it is here and he is opening up. Truth is now flowing like a river.
One can only guess as to whether Radar will submit to a trial. The evidence that he has made known to the media and law enforcement over the years has already sealed his fate. It would seem that he only has two courses to persue - plead guilty and waive a trial, or plead gulity by reason of insanity. BTK insane? It is unlikely that he would go that route. To much pride associated with what he has done. Now that the mask is off and the monster revealed it is a good bet that he will admit to his crimes in a court of law.
Regardles of how Dennis Radar pleads in court we are not very far away from learning the last of the five W's about the BTK case - Why. The veil of information will be removed.
Last Wednesday Dennis Radar and his wife delivered spaghetti sauce to his church. Tonight he is eating prison food. The Jeckyl side of Radar is disolving into the Mr.Hyde. He stares at us through the camera lens of his booking photo - hair dishelved, jaw set, cold eyes - the eyes that his victims looked into as they took their last breath - the same eyes that looked upon the innocent as they passed, by his hands, from this world into the next.
Somewhere in eternity BTK's victims are smiling. Justice is unfolding. The can now - after all these years - rest in peace. For the survivors it is a sigh of relief - a new day. But for others it is a nightmare just beginning. A husband and a father - a neighbor and co-worker unmasked to reveal the devil himself - the personification of pure evil.
The end of BTK is both bitter and sweet. And we are just now beginning to learn more about the monster inside him.
