Chilton Co. woman missing, last seen near California-Arizona borderCHILTON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A woman from Maplesville has been missing for about a week. Sandy Giles was last seen in California and Arizona when she and a friend drove across the country. Giles was supposed to return on Sunday, Mother's Day, but when she didn't come home and wasn't answering her phone. Her children filed a missing person’s report with the Chilton County Sheriff's Office. Giles' car was found Friday near the California-Arizona border. "There's not really words. It's kind of something I was hoping that wouldn't happen because that leads to more questions. We just lost hope for a moment and thought you know maybe something else had happened. But we are feeling better about that situation now," Giles’ daughter Kendal Pendley said. Pendley says her strength at this time in need comes from her mom. "She hasn't had the easiest life. Us, as a family, everyone has their struggles and we just, we've tried to take from things and keep pushing forward and she's tried her best to instill that in us beacuse she knows that life is hard and there's always going to be something in life that will try to tear you down. And she always thought it was important for us to be able to withstand things and be optimistic and keep pushing forward," Pendley said. If you have any information about where Giles can be found, you're asked to call the police. www.wbrc.com/story/35479045/chilton-co-woman-missing-last-seen-near-california-arizona-boarder

Family members said they last had contact with Giles on May 13. Texts and phone calls went unanswered, which family members said was unlike her. Giles' phone signal was last tracked in Earp, California, authorities said. www.wvtm13.com/article/maplesville-woman-reported-missing/9899851According to her son, Troy Giles: If anyone has talked to my mother Sandy Giles in the past week please message me as soon as possible. The last time I have personally talked to her was May 9 and she was in California and was expected to be home Sunday night. I txt her on Mother’s Day and she never txt back. All of our family has txt, called, messaged her on facebook, but her phone is going straight to voicemail, she hasn’t been on facebook, and the last known location on her phone is Parker, Arizona as of May 12. We have called jails, hospitals, and dispatch but no one has seen her and I don’t know of anything else to do. It is not uncommon for her to travel alot but it is not like her to not call anyone for almost a week. We had a sheriff’s deputy come out tonight and file a missing person’s report and they have sent out a nation wide alert on her and her car. She is driving a 2013 Silver Dodge Avenger. I do not have the license # but will update when I can get it. Please pray for her safety and for her to contact us soon! UPDATE* AS OF MAY 19, SAN BERNARDINO SHERIFFS OFFICE CALLED US AND HER CAR HAS BEEN FOUND BUT THERE IS NO SIGN OF HER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRAY! Since this above post, Sandy’s car was located. According to Troy she was seen at the HI Sahara gas station in Essex, California. Her car was found and had been there since May 15. Troy stated that Sandy had run out of gas, and a trooper brought her some gas to put in her car, but later she ran out of gas again. Troy posted to MPofA, “She was trying to make it to a store or to a Walmart to where I could send her money but she didn’t make it and nobody has had contact with her since last Saturday.” She pulled to the side of the road near Parker, AZ near the highway 62 and got stuck on a sand wash and left the car (photo). The car was found with a warning tag dated May 16. www.missingpersonsofamerica.com/2017/05/19/sandy-giles-goes-missing-after-running-out-of-gas-in-california/

**Update** As of today May 25, there are no new leads. We have found more information but it has done nothing but set us 10 steps back. We have spoken to and met with the San Bernardino officer that has handled her case several times every day that we have been here. He has been so helpful! We went to where her car was found as soon as we got here and we searched the area until we couldn't take the heat any longer. We found her flip flop about 20 yards from the car close to a bush she may have been sitting under for shade and a few barefoot prints are the only evidence of her being there. After that we went to the Oasis Mini Mart where she could have been spotted Monday May 15 but the officer reviewed the tape and it was only someone similar to her. As of today all of the surveillance is gone because they record over after a certain amount of time so we were not able to view Saturday(may13) and Sunday(may14) footage. Once we left there the officer took us to the tow yard where her car was taken to. He said the doors were locked Friday(may 19) when they investigated the car and they never broke into it to look inside. We were able to get the tow company to break into it so we could see the contents inside just a few hours ago. We spoke to our family that she went out there with and got them to list the things she packed and took with her and there is absolutely nothing missing from the car except for her car keys. Her purse, all bags and suitcases, shoes, makeup bag, license, registration, birth certificate, cell phone, Bible, journal, inhalers, and any other little thing was still in the car. We searched through everything and couldn't find any clues. We know the car was stuck in the sand there and we can't tell about the gas level because we didn't have a key. We charged her phone and and looked through everything and there is absolutely no clue of anything at all whatsoever. No clue on txt, recent calls, facebook, snapchat, instagram or any other app on her phone. We are literally back to square one and have no concrete evidence of anyone seeing her or that she has even been here at all. Our hearts are breaking and we do not know where to go from here. We just miss our mom and just want to know if she's okay. This has been the biggest emotional rollercoaster from having hope then it getting shut down over and over again. I just want to kiss her cheek, hug her, see her or hear her voice one more time. I know we cannot stay out here forever but I just don't know how I can ever leave without having her with me or knowing where she is. We feel so crushed and confused right now. I have tried to include every detail I can think of so that everyone knows everything we know. We are still running ourselves ragged searching for her so we will not be able to answer all questions or comments and I hope everyone understands. I would give anything in this world to be able to tell everyone that we found her safe and sound and are heading home but that is not the case at all. We do not even know where to go from this point. Thank you for all the support and prayers so far but please keep praying for us, it is the only thing helping to give us any peace and hope right now.

Sandy used her Facebook page to report periodically while on her route from Alabama to California, with posts indicating her locations: Monday, May 8th – Pulaski, Arkansas Tuesday, May 9th at 9:21am – Vega, Texas Tuesday, May 9th at 4:36pm – Continental Divide, New Mexico Wednesday, May 10th, Bakersfield, California Thursday, May 11th, Marysville, California Marysville is north of Sacramento, around 10 hours’ drive north from Parker, AZ. According to Sandy’s daughter Kendal, she stayed a couple of days and then abruptly left in the middle of the night.“She called my brother when she got to Essex, CA on May 13th and told him she was coming home and would be there by Monday, May 15th,” Kendal told Parker Live. “She said she would need him to send her money when she got closer to Texas and no one has heard from her since. The car was tagged by California Highway Patrol May 15th in [Earp]. We believe she was coming through Parker to get on 10 to take the lower route home and possibly stop in Gulf Shores because she’s lived there before, but no-one from Alabama has talked to her.” When asked if she thought something went wrong in Marysville, Kendal said she thinks so, but she doesn’t know for sure. “We talked to her [former sister-in-law] and they have been questioned by police and said they didn’t know of anything happening to make her leave but they were asleep when she left,” she said. “It is very odd, especially since we haven’t talked to her. The longest I’ve ever went without talking to her is a week but my brother talks to her almost everyday and we just don’t understand why she hasn’t called or tried to get help.” www.parkerliveonline.com/2017/05/26/sandy-giles/
