New Orleans police issued a warrant Wednesday in connection with the cold case murder of a Bywater woman in 2008. Joseph Brant, 44, confessed to stabbing Jessica Hawk to death in her Chartres Street home in 2008, police said. Brant is currently serving a prison sentence in Beaumont, Texas. Police filed paperwork with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office to have Brant transferred back to New Orleans to face a second degree murder charge, according to a NOPD news release. According to police, a break in the case came in September, 2013. Detective Winston Harbin got information about a possible suspect in the case, and went to speak with Brant in Beaumont, where he is serving an 11-year prison sentence for burglary. During an interview, Brant confessed to Hawk's murder, according to police. Harbin secured the arrest warrant on Wednesday. Police said Brant has previously been arrested for possession of cocaine, felon in possession of a Firearm, possession of stolen property, lewd conduct, hit and run and criminal damage to property. www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2014/02/nopd_identifies_suspect_in_200.html
