There are new details in the nearly three-year-old investigation into the murders of two Virginia Tech students. Police talked Thursday about the possible weapon, items stolen from the scene and vehicles of interest in the case. Heidi Childs and David Metzler were a young couple in love. On the evening of August 26, 2009 the pair drove out in Caldwell Fields in the Jefferson National Forest. Police say they arrived around 8:30 p.m. and within two hours, were both brutally murdered. Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Whitt sent a direct message to that killer on Thursday. "We have DNA evidence. We are actively and aggressively pursuing you. We will not rest until you are apprehended," he said. Details of the DNA evidence is a new revelation from the task force assigned to the Childs/Metzler case. Police say they're now comparing that DNA with residents who live in the area. "We have been overwhelmed by the cooperation and assistance from people who have been asked to provide samples," said Sheriff Whitt. Police say it's also highly likely that someone saw the killer driving to or from the scene. They have a list of cars that were seen in the area that Wednesday night. "We encourage the public to continue working with law enforcement to help us solve these brutal murders and bring just to David and Heidi's murders," said Sheriff Whitt. There is a $70,000 reward for information in this case. www.ksdk.com/news/crime/article/313257/147/New-DNA-evidence-in-college-couple-murderThis article was from Mar 30, 2012 - and to this date over one year later, apparently the DNA evidence wasn't very useful. Something is amiss in this case.
