Double Murder Closes Part of Blue Ridge ParkwayPosted:July 10, 1997 ASHEVILLE — Police sealed off part of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville after a double murder Thursday morning. Two men have been arrested in connection with the slayings, but police are still looking for a murder weapon. Valerie Sue Riddle, 24, and her five-year-old son Kelly Mark Laird were found along the Blue Ridge Parkway overnight. Police say they had been brutally stabbed. Only hours after the bodies were found, 19-year-old Lyle Clinton May was charged with two counts of first degree murder. Dale Elerby Godfrey, 23, was charged with accessory after the fact. Police have said little about a possible motive. They do say that May knew Riddle. They also believe the woman and her son were killed somewhere else and their bodies dumped along the parkway. www.wral.com/news/local/story/164043/

Late Friday afternoon, Tim Davis, 27, of Charlottesville died at the University of Virginia Medical Center, after being taken-off life support. On Monday, Davis, and Christina S. Floyd, 18, were shot at a popular scenic view on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Afton, Va. The two were watching the sunset at Rock Point Overlook, when their assailant pulled up behind them and opened fire with a shotgun from his car. Rupen Shah, chief deputy commonwealth's attorney for Augusta County told reporters that on Monday, the alleged shooter, Ralph Leon Jackson, 56, will be charged with first-degree murder. Jackson, who was arrested Wednesday, was already facing attempted murder charges and charges of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Tim Davis was a popular DJ at Charlottesville's WNRN. Davis’ co-worker, Tad Abbey told NBC29: “Tim is the kind of guy who had a great sense of humor, he brought laughter into the office every time he walked in the door; he just knew how to make people smile very, very quickly.” Christina Floyd, continues to heal from her injuries, and is expected to return home as early as this weekend. www.examiner.com/article/now-it-s-murder-blue-ridge-parkway-shooting-victim-is-dead--------------------------------- HARRISONBURG -- Ralph Leon Jackson thought he was targeting his son-in-law when he opened fire on two Blue Ridge Parkway sunset-gazers, killing one, a prosecutor said in court Wednesday. Jackson, 57, told investigators he realized after his first shotgun blast that the two people he shot in the back on April 5, 2010, weren't who he thought. He continued his attack anyway. Charlottesville radio personality Timothy Phillip Davis, 27, was later found by rescue workers at the bottom of a cliff. He died five days later. Davis' companion, Christina Floyd, then 18, fought Jackson and survived with shotgun pellets in her back and a fractured skull. Jackson, a garage worker who lived in Stuarts Draft, pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges of premeditated murder and other offenses in a deal that guarantees him life imprisonment. His plea bargain in U.S. District Court in Harrisonburg let him avoid a possible death sentence for premeditated murder. He also pleaded guilty to federal charges of assault with intent to murder, using a gun in a crime of violence, and a separate, more serious charge of using a gun in a crime of violence that resulted in death. A fifth charge, of assault with a deadly weapon, was dropped in the plea agreement. He will be formally sentenced on June 9.
