The mother of Matthew Royer said her son's cell phone pinged off of a tower near Route 78 and Vera Cruz Road in Upper Saucon Township. Ten minutes later, she said a camera from a gas station recorded his silver 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driving past the station in Coopersburg at 2 a.m. Friday. At some point, he made a transaction at a Sunoco station near Route 100 in Breinigsville, said Janet Royer, the student's mother. The sighting fits within the time frame if he left Rhode Island at 6:30 p.m. Thursday like he had told mom. "If he was going somewhere else, he wouldn't have texted me to tell me to say he was coming home," she said Sunday afternoon. Janet Royer said her son had already turned in his apartment key to his landlord in Rhode Island and was heading to his Skippack Township home for the summer. She had called his friends but no one has heard from him since he left, she said. She described her son as reliable> She said he had graduated with honors from Perkiomen Valley High School. The 21-year-old sent a text to his mom around 6:00 Thursday night saying that he overslept and was getting a late start. The family says police pinged his cell phone to a tower around Allentown just before 2:00 a.m. Friday. According to Royer's parents his normal route from the university takes five to six hours. He normally takes I-95 to the Tappanzee Bridge, then to I-78 where he takes Route 100. According to family, at 2:08 a.m. there is clear video of Royer buying water and gas at a Sunoco in Breiningsville. He made the transaction with his debit card. The video shows Royer in his Chevy Cobalt headed south on Route 100, about 40 miles from his destination. "We've narrowed it down to 30-40 miles from our house and we can't find him," said Janet. Royer's parents helped him move out of school a few weeks ago and his car was crammed with belongings including electronics and a laptop. Royer is a white male, 6'1, 160 pounds, with blue eyes, and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a beige Biltmore Adventures hat, a green golf shirt, off-white shorts, and flip-flops. His car is described as a silver 2008 Chevy Colbat with Pennsylvania tags GZR9059. It also has a scratch on the hood. At a news conference Monday afternoon, state police said a University of Rhode Island student reported missing by his Montgomery County family may have made a "voluntary move" to not return home and his parents pleaded for his return. State police said while they will continue to investigate the case of Matthew Royer, 21, of Skippack Township, as a missing person, a trooper said at the news conference that Royer may have made a "voluntary move" not to return home. State police provided no further details about his disappearance. Royer's mother, Janet, pleaded for her son to return home. www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-montgomery-county-missing-college-student-20130520,0,6214280.story I say Bullchit!!! If a kid is thinking about breaking away on his own, he doesn't drive nearly 6 hours toward the exact route that he's always taken home, and decide within the last 30-40 that he's going to just go somewhere else and find his way. Not buying this for a moment law enforcement.

Well this is very disturbing:Five days after a college student was last seen, he may have been found. Pennsylvania State Police told NBC10 Wednesday that Matthew Royer, 21, was no longer missing. Royer's own family, however, say their son is still missing. After her son never made it home from his college in Rhode Island, Janet Royer made a public plea for his safe return. "Matthew, if you can hear this, no matter what the circumstances are, you friends and your family, we all love you. We're here for you," she said and asked for him to contact her. "We will come anywhere, anyplace, anytime for you." Janet Royer spoke during a brief news conference held by Pennsylvania State Police who say they are investigating Matthew's disappearance as a missing person's case, although "it may be a voluntary move on Matthew's part," said a spokeswoman for state police at the time. Matthew is from Collegeville, Montgomery County. He texted his mother on Thursday night saying he was headed home. He turned in the keys to his college apartment and got on the road around 6:30 p.m., according to investigators. Matthew’s mother says it out of character for her son to disappear without telling anyone, especially since he was scheduled to work at Skippack Golf Club this past weekend. “He's not a child. He wouldn't tell me he's doing something and then not come home, he's responsible 21-year-old,” said Royer. While police, family and friends did not know where Matthew went, this timeline was complied by police: Thursday 6:30 p.m. -- Matthew Royer leaves his Rhode Island apartment and heads for home Friday 1:58 a.m. -- police trace Royer's last cell phone ping -- or signal to a cell tower -- in the Allentown, Pa. area. Friday 2:07 a.m. -- Surveillance video of Matthew buying gas and water at a Sunoco along Route 100 in Allentown, Pa. Friday 1 p.m. -- Royer's car seen at Route 501 and U.S. Route 422 in Myerstown, Lebanon County, Pa. That last location is about one hour and 15 minutes from Royer's home. "His car would be stuffed with dirty laundry, full of stuff...he was coming home," said Janet Royer. Family members and neighbors passed out flyers Sunday in an effort to find the missing college student. "We are her for you," his mother said in her plea. "We love you and miss you." m.nbcphiladelphia.com/nbcphilly/pm_108049/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=zc7Fdy5e

Well, it seems that I was wrong on this one. I guess you can never tell when someone is going to decide to just up and leave. Makes me wonder why I even attempt to do this on missing persons cases. But at least he's alive, for that I'm thankful.Missing Skippack student Matthew Royer found in North Carolina Action News has learned that the family of a missing college student from Skippack, Montgomery County has been reunited with their son after he was found in North Carolina.
