AKRON — Family and friends of Taylor Robinson gathered for a vigil for the missing woman Saturday afternoon.
“It’s not just about our baby, we never thought this would happen in our household. This could happened to anybody, you know,” said Taylor’s step-father Jeff Rucker. “You never know, no matter how much you prepare for it, no matter how much you talk to your kids, anything can happen.”
Rucker made an emotional plea Saturday afternoon for any tips that could help bring Taylor home.
Family members have been passing out flyers in the neighborhood, hoping someone has seen Taylor. They said they will continue to do that until she comes home.
According to the Akron Police Department, 19-year-old Taylor Robinson was last seen on Friday, May 3. She was dropped off at a residence in the 700 block of Kipling Avenue.
Robinson was working overnight as a home health care aid. When the client’s mother returned in the morning, Robinson was not at the residence and the client was left alone.
Local authorities are also receiving help from the FBI in the search for Taylor.
The recent discovery of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight has put the focus back on missing person's cases all over Ohio.
In fact, investigators with the FBI say dozens of tips have poured in this week for unsolved cases like Ashley Summers, who was only 14 when she disappeared near W. 196th Street and Madison Avenue in 2007.
The most recent case in Northeast Ohio involves 19-year-old Taylor Robinson of Akron. Her mother, Carmilla Robinson, says Taylor was juggling two jobs to pay her way through school at Kent State when she never returned home from work.
"She's responsible, if she's not coming home she'll always call and let me know she's not coming home," explained Carmilla. "I just want to make sure she's ok." It's a parent's worst nightmare and, unfortunately, hundreds of Ohio families suffer through similar experiences each year.
According to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, there are an estimated 700 missing children in Ohio right now.
"My daughter has been missing since 1995," said Debbie Marmol who has been seeking closure for 18 years.
Although there have been unconfirmed sightings of her daughter Christina Adkins in California, her missing person's case remains open with the FBI.
