TILLAMOOK COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -
A 16-year-old girl found dead of gunshot wounds on the side of Highway 6 has been identified as Kayla Ann Hendrickson.
Hendrickson's body was found late Friday night about 18 miles east of Tillamook, and state police said she was the victim of homicidal violence.
On Saturday, investigators were contacted by the Humboldt County (CA) Sheriff's Office after a man was found dead inside a vehicle that matched the description in the Highway 6 case.
Officials identified the man as Jacob Allen Green, 24, of Newport. Deputies in California reported that Green had reportedly shot himself and later died in an area hospital.
The Tillamook County District Attorney's Office confirms that Green was a person of interest in the death of Hendrickson.
According to an OSP representative, at about 10:14 p.m. Friday, a witness spotted a 1980s or 1990s pickup truck stopped on the north shoulder of Highway 6 westbound, about two miles east of Jordan Creek.
The witness saw a man and a woman alongside the truck and observed what looked like a chrome-colored "headache" rack behind the rear window.
The witness contacted Tillamook police about 25 minutes later to report suspicious circumstances. An OSP trooper then went to the scene and found the woman's body along the side of the highway.
Investigators said Green knew Hendrickson and is allegedly believed to be the suspect in her death.
The Beaverton School District confirms that Hendrickson was a student at Sunset High School for a few months during the 2011-2012 school year.
