Police are investigating as suspicious the disappearance of a Midlothian woman who vanished Wednesday without taking her car or giving any notice to her friends or employer that she planned to leave.
Investigators say Leyla Namiranian, 41, of the 2000 block of Normandstone Drive, was last seen about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday leaving Altria Group Inc. in Henrico County, where she works as director of marketing and consumer research for Altria Client Services, a subsidiary of the Altria Group.
Police believe Namiranian returned to her home Wednesday but did not go to work Thursday. Namiranian's vehicle was located outside her residence, and there was no indication that she planned to leave. There was no sign of a break-in to her home, nor any sign of a struggle inside, said Chesterfield County police Lt. Randy Horowitz.
Namiranian's purse and cellphone are missing, Horowitz said. Her luggage appears to be in place, and it doesn't appear anything was packed for a trip. The keys to her car were found in the house, he added.
"She has a good work history and she's not been heard from, which is very out of character for her," Horowitz said. "There are no signs of foul play, but her lack of communication and her lack of showing up for work is causing us concern."
"It's just one of those cases that seem a little strange," he added.
Namiranian has no family in the area and was reported missing by her employer, Horowitz said.
Horowitz said Namiranian, a native of Milan, has been divorced for many years and her former husband, who is from the Middle East, now lives on the West Coast. "So we have no concern about him being involved," Horowitz said.
Investigators are not aware of a boyfriend, and "there's no documented history of problems" involving past relationships, Horowitz said.
Horowitz said there doesn't appear to be any activity on her bank accounts or credit cards since she disappeared.
"We are concerned about our colleague and are assisting Chesterfield police by providing information that could help with their search," Altria spokesman Bill Phelps said in a statement.
Altria Client Services is a subsidiary of Altria Group, and it provides services to all of the corporation's operating companies, Phelps said. As director, Namiranian provides marketing and consumer research support to Philip Morris USA and the corporation's other tobacco companies, Phelps said.
Namiranian's LinkedIn profile says she has been employed with Philip Morris or Altria since 2007 and is experienced in U.S. and international research. In addition to English, she speaks Italian, French and some Spanish.
Police said Namiranian is white, is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
