Television show to feature Halifax woman missing since 2009
A missing woman with local ties will be featured in an hour-long television show Wednesday.
Hattie Brown is set to be the subject of TV One’s “Find our missing.” The program is will air at 10 p.m. TV One can be found on Comcast at channel 173; 328 on DirecTV.
“The main thing is to let people know she is still missing,” said Brown’s sister Preteasta “Tee” Barksdale, of Campbell County. “Perhaps we can find out some new information.”
Brown lived in Halifax. She was last seen at a Sheetz convenience store in South Boston around 2:30 a.m. May 16, 2009 with her nephew. Virginia State Police named her nephew as a suspect in the case, but he has never been charged in her disappearance.
They said she left home without her purse or medication.
The burned shell of her Volkswagen was found behind a barn near Virgilina, 20 miles south of Halifax, on July 7, 2009. Investigators searched for her for two weeks, and then later searched a pond near where her car was found.
Barksdale said show’s producers contacted the retired state police investigator who was working on the case, who then put them in touch with family members. She said she hopes the show triggers a memory for someone and yields information the family can link to Brown’s whereabouts.
Brown was about 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 155 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call the Virginia State Police at (800) 552-0962 or the Halifax Crime Line at (434) 476-8445.
