Covington, Clermont County and several other agencies have decided to return to an Ohio state park on Thursday morning to continue their search for missing Northern Kentucky teen Paige Johnson. Officials spent eight hours today looking for any evidence in the north side of East Fork Lake State Park related to the disappearance of the 17 year old and came up empty-handed. But officials believe they need to cover more ground.
It's been more than 3 weeks since Paige Johnson disappeared. For much of that time, police operated off information from an acquaintance named Jacob Bumpass, who says he dropped her off at 15th and Scott in Covington at 1 a.m. on September 23rd. But cell phone records indicate Bumpass... or at least his phone.... were near East Fork State park at 4 a.m. the morning Johnson vanished. (For more on Bumpass and his connection to Johnson, click here.) Bumpass is now behind bars on unrelated charges and refuses to comment further on the case.
Covington is the lead agency on the search. 110 searchers and 17 dog teams spent eight hours looking through the wooded areas of East Fork Lake and recovered only a few items that possibly could be evidence but won't comment further. The teams gathered tonight and determined they'd covered about 65% of the target area today. They want to look through the rest of the acreage beginning at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Meanwhile, if you have any information about Paige Johnson's disappearance or her whereabouts, contact the Covington Police at 859-292-2222.
