COVINGTON, Ky. - In newly filed search warrants, Covington police are asking for text messages exchanged between 17-year-old Paige Johnson and the man last seen with her 22-year-old Jacob Bumpass.
The search warrants state Johnson lived in Florence with her grandmother and used her grandmother's phone before she was picked up by Bumpass during the early morning hours of Sept. 23.
Police state the two exchanged text messages beforehand and now police believe the content may lead to more details concerning Johnson's whereabouts.
According to police, Bumpass told them he dropped the teen off at 15th and Scott but his cell phone records indicate that he was at East Fork Lake in Clermont County.
According to the search warrant, Bumpass changed his phone number after Johnson's disappearance while keeping the same phone.
On his Facebook site, Bumpass makes reference to Johnson on Sept. 23, at 8:22 p.m. asking folks if anyone with information on Paige's whereabouts to let him know because the cops are looking for her.
On Sunday, the Boone County Water Rescue Team searched East Fork Lake but found nothing.
Now, Covington police are working with Clermont County Sheriff's Department to do a larger search later this week.
"Essentially we are trying to find out if in fact there is any evidence that Paige was at East Fork Lake at any time that would indicate where her whereabouts or where she may have been traveling through," said Lt. Col. Spike Jones of Covington police.
Bumpass remains at the Kenton County Jail for violating his probation.
He's not been charged in connection with Johnson's disappearance.
His attorney did not return calls seeking comment.
On Monday, friends of Johnson got a billboard company to donate a billboard free of charge to help aid in the search. They're also looking for businesses and volunteers to help with fliers.
