St. Charles Police are investigating why no officers responded to a report of a car floating in the Missouri River with a woman inside. The woman later died. Sources close to the investigation tell News 4 that this appears to be a case of shoddy dispatching, and this is why a St. Charles Police Department employee is facing possible disciplinary action. Amy Oberhaus, 33 lost the ability to walk six years ago, and was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She battled depression over her weakening condition. She drove her brand new SUV into the Missouri River last month, and News 4 is told a witness called 911 after seeing her SUV float by. The St. Charles Police never came, and her body was found 12 days later. A source tells News 4 St. Charles Police were already responding to a report of another suicidal person at the same time, and a confused police dispatcher thought the report of Oberhaus’ SUV was the same case. The victim’s sister wishes the police would have responded. St. Charles Police gave a written statement saying the investigation is ongoing into the department’s initial response. It is unclear how long the investigation will go on or what disciplinary action may be given to the police dispatcher. www.kmov.com/localnews/stories/kmov_localnews_070821_911dispatcher.59b732d3.html
