Not sure if you saw update on Lyric and Elizabeth on JVM. Lyric's mom and dad are separated. The dad has had multiple drug charges, the last in December '11, meth manufacture and distribution, as well as use. He was involved in helping set up three meth labs. If I heard correctly, the Grandmother has or had temporary custody of Lyric. The skeletons are rattling their way out of the closet! ORLY? Is he the guy with Lyric's mom in the interviews? Cynthia

The girls were not in the lake, lake has been cleared, and now they're officially calling it an abduction
- There was confirmation that they were seen on the store's video camera (the one by grandma's house).
- Reward has been upped to $50k
- There is new evidence, and evidence has been sent to a lab (no word on what it is)
- Vehicles were being stopped and searched at intersections today. From what I gathered from the locals it was all or almost all vehicles passing through so it doesn't sound to me like they have a specific description

KWWL Subpoened for Interview Footage in Search for Missing Evansdale CousinsThe Black Hawk County Attorney's office has issued a subpoena to TV news station KWWL, asking for any raw, unedited video interviews with family members of missing Evansdale cousins Elizabeth Collins, 8, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10. The request is for footage of interviews with Lyric Cook-Morrissey's mother Misty Cook-Morrissey or grandmother Wylma Cook that took place on July 19 or July 20. ames.patch.com/articles/kwwl-subpoened-for-interview-footage-in-search-for-missing-evansdale-cousinsKWWL interviewed the two women a day after they said they had obtained an attorney due to what they described as harsh interrogation by authorities investigating the case, who reportedly accused them of kidnapping the girls. At the time, they said they would not speak with the authorities. Since then, however, an FBI spokesperson has said investigators are now recieving full cooperation from the family members.

Elizabeth Collins, Lyric Cook Surveillance Footage Found: Missing Iowa Cousins Were Riding Bikes (VIDEO) Video footage has emerged of two Iowa cousins who went missing on Friday, July 13. ABC News has obtained the footage of 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins and her 10-year-old cousin, Lyric Cook, riding their bikes on the same day they went missing. It lasts just a few seconds. "It looked kind of grainy, I mean just zoom they were by the thing and so it's very hard to really make much out of the thing," Black Hawk County Chief Deputy Rick Abben said. "The girls were less than a block from the house when this camera captured them riding by, important to note they were riding away from Meyers Lake." Investigators are examining the footage for clues that could lead to the discovery of the missing girls who, authorities say, were abducted twelve days ago after riding their bikes near Meyers Lake in Evansdale. The children's grandmother, who was babysitting the cousins when they disappeared, told the AP she has no idea how they ended up across town by a lake. Earlier this week, ABC reported that the families of the two cousins remain hopeful. "They told us they do have a couple of leads and that is it. Anything is hopeful," Heather Collins told ABC News' Robin Roberts. On Saturday, the AP reported that authorities still believe the girls are alive. "We believe these girls are alive, and we are not discouraged by the passage of time since their disappearance," FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said. "We are urging anyone with information to come forward. Any information, as insignificant as it may seem, could be vital to this investigation." Cook's parents, Misty and Daniel Morrissey, have criminal records relating to methamphetamine, and Daniel Morrissey has been eyed by family members as a suspect in the girls' disappearance. www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/25/missing-iowa-cousins-video_n_1702822.html

Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins: Bodies Found in Search for Missing Iowa CousinsNearly five months after Iowa cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins disappeared, the girls' families have been told two bodies were found by hunters in a wooded area, though the identities of the bodies have not been confirmed, authorities said. Capt. Rick Abben of the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office said at a press conference this afternoon that the bodies are being transported to the state's medical office in Ankeny, Iowa, for positive identification. "It's definitely not the outcome that we wanted, obviously," Abben said. "This is a difficult thing for us to go through." Lyric, 11, and Elizabeth , 9, vanished shortly after noon on July 13 while on a bike ride in the small town of Evansdale, Iowa, triggering a massive search that brought the town to a standstill. The girls' bicycles and a purse were quickly found near Meyers Lake, but there was no sign of the girls. abcnews.go.com/US/missing-iowa-cousins-lyric-cook-elizabeth-collins-bodies/story?id=17888330

"We've got an opportunity to find a killer."A sheriff investigating the apparent kidnapping and slaying of two Iowa cousins said Friday that the discovery of the young girls' bodies is a long-awaited break in the case that could help find their killer. Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson said investigators would be deliberate in pursuing the case of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins, who were 10 and 8 when they disappeared in Evansdale in July. Hunters stumbled upon two bodies believed to be Cook and Collins in a wooded wildlife area some 25 miles away on Wednesday. Thompson said it could take "several weeks" for their autopsies to be complete and the results to be made public. After nearly five months of chasing tips and theories about the girls' whereabouts, Thompson said police "finally have something credible. We finally have something we can sink our teeth into" in the high-profile case. Thompson's remarks indicate the case is becoming a homicide investigation. At a news conference Thursday, Thompson's chief deputy said the investigation was leaning that way but that police would wait for the autopsy results before making the change. Teams of local and federal officers have scoured the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area in Bremer County for evidence since the discovery of the bodies, searching in ditches along the road, fields and woods. The Iowa Medical Examiner's Office, which is handling the autopsies, was also at the scene. That office has declined comment on the autopsies. xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20121205/US.Missing.Cousins.Iowa/Attachments:

New Tip in Case Provides Hope Six months after Lyric and Elizabeth were found, authorities announced on Monday, June 24, 2013, they had three separate witnesses who said they saw a white, older-model, full-size SUV-type vehicle — similar to a Chevy Suburban or a Ford Bronco — parked on Arbutus Avenue on July 13. The street meets up with the bike trail where the girls’ bikes were found. Two witnesses said they’d seen the white SUV parked between two bike trail signs. According to KWWL Channel 7, the other witness told police they saw the vehicle parked near the woods on the east side of the lake — only a few hundred feet from where the bikes were found. All three witnesses said they’d seen the SUV sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on July 13, 2012, the same day and approximate time period when the girls went missing, WHOTV Channel 13 reported on June 24, 2012. “There (are) just a lot of reports, a lot of information to read through,” said Mike Roehrkasse with the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation in both the WHOTV and KWWL reports. “Now that there’s a little bit of a lull, we are able to start pouring through those reports and make those connections.” Witnessed described the vehicle as “a large and clunky white SUV” and “an old-style boxy suburban.” Though two of the witnesses came forward the information while canvassing, the third came several months later because the person assumed someone had already told police about it. “The one that kind of got the ball rolling was actually several months later. They didn’t know if it would be important and that’s kind of what we want to stress to the public is any piece of information can be important,” Roehrkasse said. iowacoldcases.org/case-summaries/lyric-cook-and-elizabeth-collins/

DCI Confident Michael Klunder no longer person of interestState investigators conducted a painstaking examination of potential similarities between the kidnapping and murder of Dayton teenager Kathlynn Shepard and missing person cases in Iowa, and in June 2013 a state official announced that potential connections were already being analyzed between Shepard’s murder and the Cook and Collins slayings. “Thankfully, we know for every county, every city, what unsolved missing persons cases they have,” said Gerard Meyers, assistant director of field operations of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation in a USA Today story published June 10, 2013. “We’ll want to look and see if there are any attributes from those cases that are at all consistent with this case.” Shepard, 15, and another girl were kidnapped from Dayton on May 20 while walking home after school. Authorities say Michael James Klunder, 42, took the girls to a hog confinement lot where he worked, and zip-tied their hands. The other girl managed to escape when Klunder took Shepard to another part of the property, police say. Fishermen found Shepard’s body Friday night, June 7, 2013, in the Des Moines River about 15 to 20 miles downriver from where it runs along Dayton’s east side. According to the USA Today story, Meyers said authorities were taking a two-pronged approach to any comparisons: laboratory analysis of forensic evidence, and investigative work that could pinpoint, among other things, where Klunder may have been when other people went missing. Klunder served about two decades in prison, from 1992 to 2011, for previous kidnapping and assault charges. On May 14, 2014, DCI Special Agent Mike Roehrkasse with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said the DCI is pretty confident Michael Klunder is no longer a person of interest in the [Cook/Collins] case. iowacoldcases.org/case-summaries/lyric-cook-and-elizabeth-collins/On May 14, 2014, police ruled out Michael Klunder as a suspect in the cousins’ 2012 death.

Since 2010, Bremer County sheriff’s deputies have written at least 28 incident reports at Seven Bridges Wildlife Area, ranging from a dumped methamphetamine lab to people “tearing up” the park on four-wheelers, said Sheriff Dan Pickett. Reports increased after the bodies of cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins were found in 2012, a sign that people were paying more attention to suspicious activity, Pickett said. In July 2013, a trapper reported finding a knife stuck in a tree near the site where the bodies were found, Pickett said. Last September, deputies took another report of a knife found stuck in a tree. Both knives were collected as evidence, but ultimately had no connection to the slayings, he said. Though Seven Bridges is isolated, it’s not uncommon for people to be in the area overnight fishing for catfish in the Wapsipinicon River, said Frank Frederick, the Bremer County Conservation director. The woody river bottomland is also a popular spot for raccoon hunters, who typically hunt at night. “They come and go all day and night, it seems like,” he said. www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2015/02/05/seven-bridges-murdered-girls/22954599/

Posted: Feb 04, 2016 7:32 PM ESTSeven Bridges Park still important in Lyric and Elizabeth investigation BREMER COUNTY (KWWL) - A year after giving out a big clue, investigators are still asking for anyone with information about the disappearance of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins to come forward. They are specifically looking for people who know the Seven Bridges Wildlife area in Bremer County. Hunters found the bodies of eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins and ten-year-old Lyric Cook more than three years ago. Last year, investigators released information in a press conference saying they think the person who killed the girls was very familiar with the area. Shortly after that, they received hundreds of tips about Seven Bridges Wildlife Area. Now, not so many. DCI investigator Mike Roehrkasse says right now they are reviewing those tips and seeing what shakes out. He stresses it's still important to call if you know anything about the area. Elizabeth's parents, Heather and Drew Collins say they talk to investigators about everything other week. They say even though time has passed, they hold onto hope the killer will be found. "Justice will be served. I do believe that. It just takes time to go through all that stuff and all the information and all that," said Drew Collins. The Collins believe the girls were killed the same day they were abducted. If you have any information please call the tip line. That number is 855-300-TIPS or 855-300-8477 www.kwwl.com/story/31145296/2016/02/Thursday/seven-bridges-park-still-important-in-lyric-and-elizabeth-investigation

The following items are possible characteristics the suspect may have, however should not be considered factual and the suspect or suspects may or may not possess one or all of the characteristics described here. The offender most likely acted upon an opportunity to abduct Lyric and Elizabeth when they were seen in the Evansdale area. The offender is familiar with both Meyers Lake/Angels Park in Evansdale and Seven Bridges Wildlife Area in Bremer County. The offender specifically chose Seven Bridges Wildlife Area because of the offender’s familiarity with the area and the fact that it afforded the offender privacy needed to commit the crimes with limited risk of detection by others. The offender likely used some form of “quiet coercion” to garner Elizabeth and Lyric’s initial compliance in leaving the park. This could have involved communication of a ruse or threats of violence. The offender blends in with and may be a part of the Evansdale, Bremer and surrounding communities. It is unlikely that the offender is a transient or someone who was merely traveling or “passing through” the area. The offender may have experienced stressors in the offender’s life in the time period leading up to July 13th, 2012. These stressors may have included legal problems, psychological/mental health difficulties, conflict(s) with their significant other or spouse, employment difficulties or financial strain. The offender is likely following any media reports regarding the investigation but may deliberately avoid discussions with others about the case or any public display of interest about the investigation. The offender may have attempted abductions in the past and these attempts may have involved minor or adult victims. In the time period following July 13, 2012, the offender may have made attempts to alter the appearance of the offender’s vehicle. This may have involved cleaning the interior or exterior of the vehicle or permanently changing the appearance through painting or re-upholstery. In the time period following July 13, 2012, the offender may have made attempts to alter the offender’s physical appearance to include, changing hair style/color, growing/removing facial hair, etc. BAU case experience indicates that the vast majority of these types of offenses are committed by one offender. However, there are cases in which more than one offender was involved in some part of the criminal act. Therefore, the public is strongly encouraged to contact law enforcement with any suspicion involving a single offender, multiple offenders or any individual they are suspicious of -- whether or not the person possesses any of the characteristics mentioned above. This information is being released to the public in hopes it will assist the public to remember specific activities/characteristics of individuals around the date of the girls abduction and report it to investigators. evansdalepolice.org/suspectinfo.html
