A mother missing for seven years is found, and tonight test results are giving her family some closure.
Back in February, a body was found buried under a concrete slab behind a home on Cantrell Street. The medical examiner has confirmed the body is that of 33-year-old Dedra Salinas. The news is something her family dreaded, but needed to hear.
“It's hard for me because Dedra has a daughter,” Margie Salinas tells News 4 WOAI. “Dedra was my daughter, I'm dealing with the grief and because my granddaughter is grieving.”
Salinas’ family says they will remember the good times they had with her.
“What's next for us is to still remain united as a family,” says Enucia Salinas-Cruz, Dedra’s sister. “Her remembrance will always be there. She always had some funny thing to tell us.”
The Medical Examiner was not able to determine how Dedra died. Police do have a suspect, and are continuing to investigate the 33-year-old’s death.
The family says funeral services will be held sometime next week

[glow=red,2,300]Lubbock Medical Examiner Identifies Body Found Near Shallowater[/glow] We now know the identity of the body found near Shallowater. It is Kay Harrelson, the 51-year-old woman that disappeared Wednesday, August 9th. Sunday, August 20th, a volunteer search party found the body in a bar ditch on FM 179 and County Road 6000 near Shallowater. The body appeared to be mutilated and the head was detached from the body, investigators believe most likely by animals. The medical examiner was able to use dental records to positively identify the body as Harrelson's. The family has also been notified. The Lubbock Police did not release the cause of death, which will be determined by the autopsy that began Monday. Harrelson's body was found wearing a bloody shirt and underwear. Authorities believe the body was outside in a ditch for 8 to 10 days. Investigators are treating Harrelson's death a homicide investigation. www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=5308513&nav=3w6y

[glow=red,2,300]Body of one of 2 missing Lubbock women found ID'd[/glow] SHALLOWATER, Texas -- Police said Monday a decapitated body found a day earlier was that of a missing 51-year-old Lubbock woman. The Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office used dental records to identify Kay Harrelson, one of two women who disappeared on Aug. 9. Harrelson's remains were hidden by tall grass that lines a cotton field off a dusty road near Shallowater, Sheriff David Gutierrez said. Harrelson's head was found a few feet away from her body. It wasn't clear if the woman was left there decapitated or if wild animals disturbed the body. Harrelson's death is being investigated as a homicide, Sheriff's Capt. Don Carter said. Authorities have not named a suspect in connection with Harrelson's death or Peggy Merimon's disappearance, Lubbock police Sgt. Jeff Baker said. Investigators think Harrelson had been dead as long as 10 days. A search party had been looking for Harrelson and Merimon, 61. The women were last seen Aug. 9 leaving the Lubbock State School, where they worked, with an unknown man. After the body was found, sheriff's deputies and Department of Public Safety officials looked through the site for hours while a helicopter flew overhead. "There were a couple of articles of clothing that may or may not be related," Carter said. www.kristv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5308343&nav=Bsmh
